The American team of investors who are partnering with Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) to float a $4bn investment in Delta State undertook a tour of selected communities in the creeks for on-the-spot assessment with a view of sitting some multi-billion-dollar industries in the area.
Areas visited were Okerenkoko, Kunukunuma and Oporoza. The team which was led the Prime Minister of the Gbaramatu Kingdom and Executive Chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Willington Okirika, were received by thousands of local people who expressed great pleasure and delight about the visit of the American investors even at this critical time.
Addressing the villagers at Kunukunuma, Mr Jack Heffernan of Trans Atlantic Development Corporation of New York, later told the people that their company is now fully convinced about the Nigerian peace project intervention.
Said he: "Our visit has confirmed very copiously the peace and friendly nature of the people of the oil producing communities which no doubt has put paid to most internet information that people from the oil host communities are hostile and unfriendly to investors".
Also speaking, DESOPADEC boss, Chief Willington Okirika, said, "For me what is happening here today is historic and exciting. Our visitors from the United States have come to see things for themselves, that the place is safe and friendly.”
“The wealth of the people which was taken away from them for years has been returned through DESOPADEC and with the coming of these foreign investors the people are happy. The gas that has been flared for years will now be properly converted to cash".
