The Federal Government of Nigeria set down rules and procedures for the award of contracts in the oil and gas industry of Nigeria. According to these rules and procedures, no company can be awarded a contract of any sort in Nigeria without having been registered as an oil and gas service company with the federal government of Nigeria.

Consequently too, the oil and gas companies in Nigeria too have no power whatsoever to award a contract to any company that is not registered with the federal government of Nigeria and with the oil and gas companies themselves.

This is in a bid to fight corruption in Nigeria, ensure excellence in service delivery, make sure that federal taxes including value added tax is paid as at when due and to make sure that only recognized professional companies are awarded the contracts available in the oil and gas industry of Nigeria.

The major goal is to make sure that companies registered for oil and gas services have invested some amount in the foreign direct investment (FDI) and have a real presence in Nigeria.
